Charlotte, N.C., Nov. 22, 2022. Craft & Trade Academy today announced it received a $50,000 grant from Truist Foundation to continue creating pathways to success through fully funded tiling apprenticeships.
“We are thankful for the grant from the Truist Foundation, which will help Craft & Trade Academy increase access to training and wealth-building opportunities in the construction industry for the historically underserved in Charlotte”, said Sarah Cover, Director of the Craft & Trade Academy.
Truist Foundation will contribute to the costs for the tools, uniforms, and instructional materials to ensure Tile Installer apprentices gain valuable skills for an in-demand trade and finish the apprenticeship career-ready with no debt. The construction industry is facing a major workforce shortage, with reports indicating the need for 650,000 workers to meet current and future demand. Funding from Truist Foundation will help the academy to provide quality training to apprentices, increasing access to career opportunities as they work towards their Journeyman card from the U.S Department of Labor.
“There’s no better way to prepare for successful careers than providing hands-on apprenticeships and training,” said Heath Campbell, Metrolina regional president for Truist. “Our support of Craft & Trade Academy’s apprenticeship program is critical to developing skillsets and professional networks that are critical for future success, and is another way we fulfill Truist’s purpose to inspire and build better lives and communities.”
