Coat of Self-Expression with Shae Bishop

In late September, students from Palisades High School learned the relationship between ceramic tiles and textures under the direction of Shae Bishop. Bishop is a professional artist who uses ceramic and fiber to create wearable artworks.

Students worked with the self-expression theme and hand-carved their own designs into molds. Using these unique molds, they produced ceramic tiles that were laced together into a ceramic garment. The result was a ceramic coat composed of over 200 pieces and it was entitled “the coat of self-expression”. The final art piece was displayed at the Mint Museum Randolph.

“My workshop at Craft & Trade Academy was exciting because it connected me with an amazing group of students. I got to share some unusual artistic techniques with them, and together we completed a very ambitious group project they can be proud of.” “My experience proved to me that this three-way partnership between professional artists, local schools, and Craft & Trade Academy has great potential, and I am excited to see it continue to grow.” - Shae Bishop
